Faculty and staff who are married to each other and those with children could stand to lose some benefit funding and single parents could receive more under a proposed policy change that sparked heated debate Wednesday.
At the UI Staff Council meeting, Rick Borchard, a co-chairman of the Fund Retirement and Insurance Charter, presented proposed changes in how UI employees will receive their health, dental, life, and retirement insurance. Nearly 150 people were in attendance, and many tempers flared.

A Manhattan man received a life-threatening cut to the neck at his residence Monday evening and was taken to Mercy Regional Health Center in critical condition. Lt. Kurt Moldrup, of the Riley County Police Department, said an anonymous 911 call at 8:36 p.m.

So the temperature is finally above freezing (for the moment), the sun is shining on Lake Michigan and best of all, school is out for summer! There's nothing quite like Chicago in the summertime. The city really seems to come alive with festivals, fairs, and people basking in the heat.
