Last semester, the string of repeated hate incidents on campus took the college by surprise. Months after, we still find ourselves dumbfounded at the possibility of such undisguised and unapologetic hate, especially at an institution celebrated for - and which prides itself on - its acceptance and diversity.

"Break It Down: Dismantling Racism and Promoting Difference." The theme of Macalester's 2010 Black History Month came out of frustrations we've experienced here at Mac. Incidents this past semester, most visibly the hate speech at the Grate, highlighted an atmosphere at Macalester that many chose to ignore- an atmosphere that many have the choice to ignore.

We believe this is a momentous event for Macalester, and that this campus would absolutely benefit from discussions surrounding sex positivity.
